Therapy for college students
College is supposed to be the time of your life, which makes it extra disorienting when a lot of it feels hard, lonely, or just off. If you're stressed, homesick, drinking more than you meant to, or quietly wondering why everyone else seems fine, that doesn't mean you're failing at college. It means you're human, in a genuinely demanding stretch of it.
There's a specific kind of pressure that comes with these years, and it hits from a few directions at once. The academics ramp up right as the safety net of home stops being an arm's reach away. You're supposed to build a whole social life from scratch while keeping your grades up and stretching a budget that never quite covers it. Meanwhile the drinking or partying that felt fun at first can start to feel like a lot. Add homesickness, a breakup, a rough roommate situation, or just the slow burnout of never fully catching up, and it's no wonder so many students hit a wall somewhere in here.
Here's the part I want you to hear: none of that means you're behind or doing it wrong. This is the most common time in life for anxiety and low moods to show up, and it's also a really workable one. We can meet in person here in Boulder or online, which a lot of students prefer, since you can do it from your dorm or apartment with no waiting room and no one seeing you walk in. I also teach in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at CU, so campus life here isn't abstract to me. Whether you're at CU, home for the summer, or somewhere else in Colorado, we'll start where you are.
Sound familiar?
The pressure feels like too much
Test anxiety, perfectionism, procrastination that spirals into panic, the sense that you're always behind. CBT gives us practical ways to quiet that down and get some room back.
Something's off and you can't name it
You're sleeping weird, skipping things you used to enjoy, feeling flat or on edge. We figure out together whether it's anxiety, low mood, homesickness, or just a really hard semester, and what actually helps.
Your drinking or using is on your mind
Maybe it started as normal college stuff and now you're wondering. You don't need a label or a rock-bottom story to talk it through. Your goal is yours, and I won't pressure you toward anyone else's.
