Starting therapy, one step at a time

If you've never done this before, not knowing what happens next can be the hardest part. So here's the whole path, laid out plainly — no jargon, no surprises.

How it works, start to finish

1

Free 15-minute consultation

We start with a short, no-pressure call. You tell me a little about what's bringing you in, I share how I work, and together we get a feel for whether we're a good fit. There's nothing to prepare — you can't get it wrong.

2

Diagnostic evaluation

Our first full session runs 60–90 minutes. This is where I really get to know your story and what you've been experiencing, so we can clarify what's going on and set clear, meaningful goals for our work together.

3

Individual therapy

From there, we meet for 60-minute sessions — usually weekly or biweekly — in person in Boulder or by video, whatever fits your life. This is the ongoing work, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.

What a first session is really like

A lot of people picture the movie version — lying on a couch, being analyzed, or being asked to relive the hardest thing that's ever happened to them. It's not like that.

Mostly, we just talk. You share as much or as little as you're ready to, and we go from there. You don't need to have the words for what you're feeling, and you won't be pushed to open up faster than you want to. Feeling nervous is completely normal — most people do, and it tends to ease once we get going.

What therapy with me feels like

My goal is a space that's collaborative and genuinely non-judgmental — where you're met with warmth, not diagnosis-first distance. We figure things out together, you stay in the driver's seat, and we always move at your pace. There's no version of you that's too much, and no reason for being here that's too small.

Take the first small step

It all starts with a free 15-minute call — just a conversation, no commitment. When you're ready, I'm here.
